ShiftSync has a built-in connector (an MCP server) that lets an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT work with your ShiftSync account. Once connected, you can ask the assistant about your shifts, plan around friends, and add or change shifts in plain language — it does the work in ShiftSync for you.

You connect it once per assistant by adding ShiftSync’s connector address and signing in to approve access.

Before you start

Connecting a custom connector needs the right kind of account on each platform — this is set by Claude and ChatGPT, not ShiftSync, and can change over time.

  • Claude — custom connectors work on the Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans. On Free you can add only one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an organisation owner has to add the connector for the workspace first, then members can connect it.
  • ChatGPT — you need a paid plan: Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise or Edu (custom connectors aren’t available on Free), with Developer Mode turned on. On Plus and Pro, connectors are read-only — ChatGPT can see your shifts but can’t change them. Adding or editing shifts and friends needs Business, Enterprise or Edu.

Connect to Claude

  1. In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors. On Team or Enterprise, an owner first adds the connector under Organisation settings → Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Give it a name (for example, ShiftSync) and paste the connector address https://ai.shiftsync.app/mcp.
  4. Confirm to add it. Claude opens a ShiftSync sign-in page — sign in and approve the access it asks for.
  5. ShiftSync now appears in your connectors. Turn it on in a chat to start using it.

Connect to ChatGPT

  1. Turn on Developer Mode in ChatGPT’s settings (under Connectors, or Apps & Connectors → Advanced).
  2. In Settings → Connectors, choose to add a connector and paste the connector address https://ai.shiftsync.app/mcp.
  3. Connect, then sign in to ShiftSync and approve the access it asks for.
  4. Turn the ShiftSync connector on in a chat to use it. Remember: on Plus and Pro it’s read-only.

The exact menu names on Claude and ChatGPT change from time to time, but the idea is the same on both: add a custom connector, paste the address above, then sign in and approve.

What the assistant can do

When you approve access, you choose what ShiftSync lets the assistant do. It can:

  • Read your shifts, templates, friends and groups, and pending friend invites.
  • Make changes — add shifts from a template, book a multi-day event like annual leave, change or delete a shift, invite friends, create groups, and accept or decline invites.

What a friend’s shifts show still follows each shift’s visibility — the assistant only sees what you’d see in the app.

  • “Add an Early shift on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week.”
  • “Book me off for annual leave from 14 to 18 July.”
  • “Change Friday’s shift to a Late and add a note: covering for Sam.”
  • “Delete my shift on the 9th.”

Friends and groups

  • “Invite alex@example.com to be my friend on ShiftSync.”
  • “Create a group called Weekend Crew with Sam, Jamie and Alex.”

Stay in control

The assistant can make real changes to your calendar — including deleting shifts, which can’t be undone — so it’s worth reading back what it’s about to do before you confirm.

You can disconnect ShiftSync at any time from the connector settings in Claude or ChatGPT. Disconnecting revokes the assistant’s access to your account. You can also revoke access from the ShiftSync side, in Settings → Apps.
